    Default cordless hammer drill

My milwaukee 18v cordless hammer drill recently died after 10 years of use and now am in the market for a new one. i am steering toward another millwaukee but alot of my other tools are makita, however i hear they have gone down hill.
i primarily want to use it for drilling 5 to 10 mm holes in brick and occasionaly concrete and of course wood etc. Any ideas and imput would be appreciated

Got a current model Hitachi 18 V Li-Ion drill/impact drill. Cant fault it as a drill, but the one time I used it on brick was probably the last. Way too slow and it felt like it was struggling somewhat. Next time will get the Metabo corded out of the ute.

I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.

From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

yeah, heard that about hitachi cordless. had a look at the v28 and 18v lithium milwaukee and the 18v metabo today, and others but think t;s a toss up between these two. Reseach is hurting my brain. only problem is i hear milwaukee was bought out by ryobi about 3 years ago and are now made in china. does anyone think that this is as bad as it sounds? yes it has a 5 year warranty but don't really want to be taking it back all the time. i got a metabo power grip and am pretty impressed with it but i don't know if 1 good product is enough to commend all tools made under the brand

No possibility of looking at a Hilti? Understandably a very different price field as much of the alternatives, but the TE2-A 24v may be suitable for what your looking for? And is still made in Lieichenstein where Hiltis have always been made and where they're based.

Have you tried the new Milwaukee m18 series.....they have a new 4pole motor configeration & are alot more compact than the old p18 & v18 series.... If you purchase the v18 series at them moment you will be able to use your old batteries on this unit & you should pick it up on reduced pricing due to the new model launches.....don't forget the Milwuakee lithium range is backed by a 5 YEAR WARRANTY!!!

    Thumbs up

Any of those hammer drills are a waste of time. Get yourself a Hilti or Metabo. Hilti bits are the best imho although pricy......but they last well. And good back up policy.

Forget cordless. For the few times you really need a hammer drill it is worth the time to run an extension cord and use something with real grunt. There are a few heavy duty hammer drills on the market for less than $100 that go through concrete like butter. Look for a cordless that is good at driving screws.
