The safety people will have a whole lot to say about mods to tools used on building sites. Simply put if it has a sparkies tag, then its OK but in the home workshop it will certainly be appreciated by our family members if we do the right thing with our gear. - No this is not a paid message. With all this in mind I would suggest that most chipies have a very short lead on their saws (as a result of previous incidents) and a short lead is really handy for packing up, so see your local sparkie. Mind you, an IEC plug/socket means you will need the correct extension lead which I guarantee will not be spare in the back of someone's ute on a building site (with a tag). On the other hand, they are likely found hanging in the corner of the average workshop.
BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU DIY and make sure the earth is connected right through. Two wires are one short of three and this is not shown in the examples above.

I am not a sparkie but I do spend plenty of time on building sites

It is a 240V 3 pin plug. References to manufacturers specifications for testing purposes relate to guards and safety devices being correctly fitted and used in a manner intended by the manufacturer. Insulation on the pins is to prevent contact if the plug is partially withdrawn. The pins on these plugs are completely shrouded so provide additional protection to users. They are an approved and fully compliant product and there is no reason to fail them. All that aside, I doubt if WW is going to be having his tools tested and tagged any time soon.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

IEC connectors are 3-pin connectors and all mine are wired as per the original 3-pin plugs. Also, heavy duty 10 amp and 15 amp extension leads are available with moulded IEC connectors.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

If you look back to the start where Woodwould started with a couple of IEC options. Yes 3 pin plugs and sockets are available his other option was a 2 pin version.

This might suit a double insulated machine but not one requiring an earth and still I bet there will not be a spare in the back of the ute when your goes west, missing or you run the saw through it.
