    Default Archer CMS/SCMS

JUst picked up the latest Australian Woodsmith and see that Carbatec are offering an Archer CMS or SCMS with an INDUCTION motor, I hesitate to go to Bayswater because you just know they won't have one but does anyone know of these/used one etc.
    Opinions please.

    Default Archer SCMS

    Iain,
There is a review in the latest Australian Wood Review by Raf Nathan comparing GMC, Archer, Ryobi & Metabo. He claims with the induction motor it is much quieter than the others but also has less grunt but that is no doubt because it's input power is lower than the other three.

    Check it out.

    regards

im looking at the article now, it states :

    metal guard - good
trigger very heavy - not so good for reperative actions
mitre table needed sanding ? to be level
induciton motor is great but still need muffs
dust extracion best of all 4 units tested
need allenkeys to adjust bevel angle
if angles not set to indents it tends to wander (not good huh)
    slowed on thick blackwoods
tas oak was ony just acceptable
    blade change easy
author reckons its "more of a power tool in use"
    induction less torque
fence and table not finely milled for fine work or repeatable cuts
    robust
    blade brake
    easy 90 deg setting
    smooth slide action
lock nut tightens mitre table - could wear
the only way to cut blackwood was to "hold on tight and ease the saw through"

so it seems ok, but lacking in power and may not last due to some of the components wearing.

tha will be $20 please ...

Cheques in the mail, and thanks for the responses, I may just keep what I have but the thought of a quiet saw was somewhat appealing.

Looks like a copy of the Elektra-Beckum, and another Metabo model made in the same factory I bet... Be aware that these have a very limited depth of cut. Make sure that this suits your needs.

That said, my brother has the EB original (Classic?) and it is actually really quiet and suits his needs. I went to buy one too but the depth of cut thing put me off.
