Default Dewalt 740 and older Shop Smith - Problem

Help I'm in the middle of a major kitchen remodel and both my table saw (shopsmith) and now my radial arm saw are on the fritz. Neither motor will go. I was given the old shopsmith and inherited the Dewalt from my late father in law. Both were working fine and now neither seems to get power.
THe 740 won't even make a noise when turned on... as it was dying, it was stuck in a board and making a buzing sound as it tried to turn...
While I am rookie and don't know tons about motors (YET); I am capable of doing it. I really like tools and I'm hoping that I can fix them. Plus, I don't like wasting otherwise good equipment and I can't afford to replace them. Thanks for any and all help.

from what it sounds like it might be your armature that is gone, if it is an induction motor it might be the starting & running capacitors, sometimes also if you are running them on a long extension lead you might have voltage drop causing a similar problem
