Dyson upright - bewdiful!

Hi all...
Just to say we bought a PIRANHA brand from Big Dub over a year ago and it cost just $89 and is AS GOOD or better that any other vacuum (read Hoover if you are a pom) we have ever bought.
Mind you, Never owned a Dyson or anything fancier than an Electrolux.

We've got a Dyson cyclone vacuum cleaner and whilst very good it is not as efficient as the cheap old vac that now is in my workshop and powers my Triton dustbucket modified mini cyclone.


So build her a mini cyclone, put it on a trolley together with your existing vac and save some money that you can then spend on some workshop tools.

Those expensive Dyson's can be very hard on your carpet. It's not all about maximum suction. You only have to suck up the dirt, not the carpet fibres.

We have a fairly expensive Wertheim at home and a Meile for work, I probably prefer the Miele it gives a lot less trouble and sucks up enough dust to make the carpet look clean.

Don't penny-pinch on HER vacuum or you set the stage for her to penny-pinch on your toys.

I bought a Vax maxim 2200 about 12 months ago for $190, advertised for $249. Cant fault it.

Good for vaccuuming up dogs hair. Variable suction, metal wand and 2yr warranty.

Years ago I worked for Godfreys in there repair centre in Melbourne. Can tell you Meile are quite good (parts dear but they are a good machine) & VAX are good too. Dyson weren't around then but there were a couple of bagless cycloney things that were always a pain a to fix...ie expensive cause time consuming. So I'd go for the VAX especially if she actually likes it....that's gotta be worth a new router or something.

Actually, it's an AmSuck (Amway CMS1000) bought 20-ish years ago.
SWMBO had spent a pretty penny on a Kirby with all the attachments, before we met, and this week listed her Kirby for sale in the local paper, voting to keep the AmSuck.

The Amway design was licenced from Dyson, so I'm happy to vote for the technology, and the way you can see if it's picking up dust or not, and the ease of emptying.

14 y.o. son blew the motor vacuuming the car (with MP3 player ruining his ears), and Amway had all the bits in stock.

SWMBO can't find anyone who still services or has spares for Kirby.

Thanks for all the replies - much appreciated. We have just returned from shopping where we bought a mid priced Meile that is supposedly built in Germany and not China like the cheaper ones in their range. Even the wife was impressed enough to pass on the Vax so I haven't upset her.

I went to a machinery auction locally this morning and was amazed at how cheap some of the items were going for. I was told that there is presently a glut of secondhand machinery on the market because so many manufacturing companies are going out of business or moving their operations overseas. This particular company went out of business because it's biggest customer had gone to the wall and could not pay a severe debt back:mad:. It's ashame to see yet another local company going to the wall with the loss of 70-80 jobs.

Now I see you can expect to pay $200,000 (more than a mortgage in some areas of the country) to become part of the brainy country - well why not as there won't be any blue coller jobs left shortly at this rate of company closures.
