Thread: Drill Comparison

This is a none too scientific assessment of several drills I used recently while building my deck.

All drilling was done in structural pine except where stated.

They are not all owned by me apart from 2. The others were owned by various "helpers".

Cordless Drills, All 18V Lithium:

Ryobi One+(My own) A good drill fit for not too heavy duty work. Light enough and comfortable to use.
For thicker gauge screws and longer screws a pilot hole is a must. Batteries are quick charge. the drill works
well if not pushed to the limit.

Ozito Surprizingly good unit. Performed slightly better than the Ryobi despite the specifications being the same.

Makita This was the best performer of the three. More compact and with an impact function. Drove screws without a pilot hole.
Easier to get into slightly tighter spaces.

240V Power Drills:

Rockwell After about 50 3/16 holes in 2.4mm gal C purlins It spat sparks and created a beautil green electrical storm. Nuff sed.
Its best feature was the keyless chuck!

AEG Sorry! Forgot to get the model number. Purchased to replace the obove deceased item at Bunnies. Orange colour.. Best speed and torque controls
I have come acros on a 240V drill. GREAT KEYLESS CHUCK. Light enough for constant use.

Ozito My own 1050 Chinese Watt monster. Full metal jacket, two speed plus hammer. Variable torque control. More grunt than a paddock full of pigs.
Hammer function is virtually useless because the chuck works loose. Chuck (keyed ) works loose . I will replace this with a keyless chuck.
A big, heavy beast not for constant use in confined spaces or overhead! Excellent for big stuff due to the power available. Drives 4" batten screws without pilot holes
and with ease.
