Ask on the arboristsite forum, there’s hundreds of chainsaw nuts on there, bound to be one in Melbourne who will know

I don't like the chances of getting parts if you need any, I couldn't get any parts for a similar aged Echo saw in Aus or USA 8 years ago when I tried to get one of mine rehabilitated. Seems to be some turnover is agents and distributors here over the years and whenever they change, distributor spare parts stocks get sent back to Japan and are no longer available to Australia. I was told that there had been 3 different distributors since the one I acquired secondhand was new. Looking at my regular US parts suppliers gave the impression that something similar happened there also.

They make some nice machines that work well for a considerable time without needing parts beyond basic routine replacement consumables, but as they age and you might need parts, the parts supply has dried up. I accept that the saw was your father's and may have some sentimental value to you, but that won't overcome poor parts supply. I haven't bought Echo for about new for about 20 years, though I bout the saw I had parts supply issues with about 15 years ago. Same issue with my first brushcutter, couldn't get major parts when 5 years old, soldiered on without them for another 5 years then replaced the machine when it became too frustrating to bother with, same with the replacement machine after about 6 years, same with the S/H chainsaw except that it was bought as a fixer upper but couldn't be fixed.

The current distributor appears to have had the agency for 15 years or longer, so the situation may have changed for machines they have supplied, but they weren't interested in trying to source parts for machines from before their agency when I tried 10 years ago.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
