Fein Multimaster
Has anyone had any experience with the Fein Multimaster? My wife wants to buy me the Top set for my birthday.

yes they are AWFUL. If she buys one, give it to ME!
They are awesome for renovation work (however I think Bosch might make something similar now at a much cheaper price)
Cheers

Don't buy the Bosch green copy of the Fein - it won't last, its probably the worst Bosch green tool in the range as far as staying power goes.
Fein are very much like Festo, but I think better value for money - last for yonks, plenty of actually useful gadgets.
If you get the 'Top' with the boxed set of all the gadgets then there is very little you will need to buy apart from sandpaper, unless you are renovating a block of flats or a fleet of fiberglass boats, when you may want to buy some more saw blades & grinding disks. For a renovator I would probably rate it ahead of a jigsaw & angle grinder - it can do pretty much everything they can do, and its safer to use - no severed fingers.

I had a look at the videos on youtube showing these things at work - amazingly versatile - I'll have to get one eventually. So many tools - so little money!
Regarding the comment:

Do you mean the green delta/triangle sander - are they no good?

Forget that last question - I see that Bosch does indeed make a version similar to the Fein - I assume that is the one you are referring to bsrlee.
I need to spend more time in tool stores looking at the latest toys.

Bosch green thingie - mates brother bought one a while ago, the internals are plastic and just basically melted down - the Bosch relies on flexing a plastic finger several thousand times a minute & the plastic they use can't take the beating.
Fein developed & patented their (original) mechanism & everyone else is just trying to find a way round it with varying degrees of success or licensing Fein's design if they are smart.

I have the select kit, got it at the "wood show" in melb last year. Usually have some good deals there. Its a fantastic tool highly recommended. The quick release of the blade is excellent and the fitting of the blade in a 360 deg fashion [on the horizontal plane] is
Another thing, when I got my kit home, it was missing one of the blades. I didnt contact them straight away, and put it down to experience when I remembered about it a couple of months later. But in March this year when I was laid up with a prolapsed disc and not much to do, I fired off an email to them thinking "what the heck, nothing to lose." Was very happy when a few weeks later the part arrived in the mail no questions asked. My thank you email reply was acknowledged with cheerful professionalism.
makes the purrfect present to receive. there are a few deals going on at this link for this month also [not long to go] http://www.allinonetools.com.au/index.html

Who said that ladies don't have technical knowledge? This machine is spot-on, so your wife has excellent taste, that's for sure. She definitely deserves that mink coat now!

Multimaster!!!!!!!
Well I got the Multimaster, and a pile of extra attachments, for Father's Day. Looks great, much better feel than the green one available at the big B. Now, as soon as I finish 90+ sqm of tiling, I will be looking for projects to use it on. Firstly I think will have to be cleaning, re-puttying and painting all of the windows. I suppose that was motivation behind my wife suggesting it in the first place.
Now, suppose I have to look at the other suggestion she had. Change my everyday car from my '59 Morris Minor Ute to an MX-5. Can't I have both? She really is a darling isn't she.

We get on average 1 customer a week that has tried to get away on the cheap with the bosch green version, we also get a few customers in the wardrobe industry that take the bases of jigsaws to do the same job..
These guys are also tradesmen which can claim the expense of the better quality tool & also do the job alot more accurately & faster.
My suggestion would be to you to buy the start version which goes from $300-350+gst and build up from there. If you are going to use it for a variety of applications show her what it can do & im sure she will find you things to do with it.... she might even combine your christmas present budget to upgrade to the fein......
If you need a copy of the fein dvd for some gentle persuasion drop me an email & i will send you one
The top version is the most cost effecient to buy but on the down side you might have too big of a job list if the wife sees what it comes with
