Thread: Festool OF 1400 or 2200 router?

Give the Fe$tool rep a call - they’ll bring both out to you and you can try them. They’re quite happy to do this, even for private buyers. ALternative is to see if your local Total Tools has demo’s in - mine will gladly lend me a tool for a weekend ‘demo’ , but they know I buy things from them.

There’s a big green ‘book a a demo’ type button that pops up on the Fe$tool website when you look at tool details. Hit it.

(I’ve got the 1400, which is great. I haven’t done much in anything hard though.
I’ve found that I’ve often thought of getting the bigger tool when looking at specs, but changed my mind when actually handling it. Size does matter!)

I had one and it was sooooo good; soft-start, variable speed and stacks of power.

Here is a second hand OF1400 https://www.cashconverters.com.au/sh...r/000400226185 Could be worth it depending on shipping cost.
If your posts are already erected consider the weight of any router you might use.

Jeez - that is cheap! If it's in good working order, it's a no brainer! Buy it stat!

I have the 1400 and real happy with it. Tried the 2000 but like all 3hp routers very heavy.
If doing heavy or hard work I may take 1 or 2 more cuts but that is just my way
The only down side is that because of the shape it is no good for most router lifts where you use a plunge router

My go to router is the OF1400 does all that I really want of it,I also have the OF2200,it is a beast heavy but exxy .seriously suggest your real needs later on after the post have been done.

Too tempting to resist. Price was reduced to about 1/2 new price and under $50 to ship from Perth to Melbourne.

Another vote for the 1400. I had one and no longer do (don't do much with power tools), but can't deny that it's about perfect for a plunging do-all router. It's not small, it's not big, it's really smooth, everything on it works well.

I wouldn't want a 2200 watt router as a do-all, but if you want a good plunger of that size, find an older ryobi router from the 1990s (when they were made in japan - they made a really nice 15 amp plunger that was a high dollar router and doesn't get as much respect now because they cheapened the brand).

Sorry - the ‘demo’ button is now a less conspicuous grey button - it’s there next to ‘view range’ under the tool title

OYou’d need plenty of big work to do to put up with a 2200 for handheld use, or just be trying to save on a gym membership. Personally the 1400 would be my pick, not much that a 1400w router can’t do unless you have it a table and treat it like a baby spindle moulder milling big profiles etc.
