floats construction
Hi All,
...from long time, I am thinking to build hand plane (wooden planes) therefore I have built two steel pieces for two floats. I have to file the teeth.
But I'm in confusing... I don't know if is worth the hardening by temper. Some folks have said me that I risk the warp of the floats.
Is there anyone who has built those items and should give me any advice?
Thanks in advance..:confused:Cheers

Gabriele,
I have no personal experience with this but there is a fellow that hangs out on Woodcentral that has a website that deals with this very issue (amongst others) with plane floats.
The short answer is that he hasn't bothered hardening his homemade floats.
Here is the link to the start of his tutorial: http://www.norsewoodsmith.com/img/float/Floats2.htm

Hi Gabriele
Here are some planes for laminated construction, one that does not require a float to build.
