Default This Is A Great Forum - Thank You!

Hi all - I discovered this forum today by clicking on a link in Woodcentral.
Am I ever glad I did! This is a great forum!
Although there's big differences in equipment and materials (man, do you have access to beatiful hardwoods!), I look forward to participating more in the future here.
    All the very best.

    Howard - Welcome aboard.
You may find the boys' humour a little strange at times but that is half the fun.
    Enjoy

    Howard,

You're correct, this is a great forum. Since I started coming here only a few weeks ago, I've picked up heaps of tips and made some substantial improvements both in my workshop and in my understanding of working with wood.

There are several personalities that stand out and you'll soon come to know them. I wont bore you with my observations but suffice to say that you have here a number of individuals who have taken their interest in certain aspects of the craft to a level of specialisation which makes them experts in most people's view.

There are a few tradesmen around who can provide authoritive answers and industry views. There are artists (that's the only word I can think of for them) whose abilities in working wood will blow your mind and give you something to aspire to, even if you think you could never achieve it.

There are a few people here who have had a go at most things and aren't afraid to try the rest, they just haven't gotten around to them yet. If there's something you're thinking of doing, chances are someone here has done it before. There'll certainly be someone who has an opinion on it

There is also a real spirit of invention on the site. You'll find numerous contraptions and gizmos from the simple to the sublime, all with the goal of improving some aspect of your work and most constructed from bits and pieces you can probably find out in your shed. I've made some humble contributions along these lines but you can check out other members posts relating to dust extraction, router table operations, equipment stands, jigs and a plethora of workshop ideas.

The best thing is that after you've been here for a while, they make you a 'Senior Member'. I got my senior status yesterday (it's a red-letter day on my calendar now ). Quickest and least deserved promotion I've ever had

    Enjoy!

    Howard, welcome aboard!

As the resident Canuck, I always like to offer a special welcome to my Canadian mates - you know the old saying "You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy."

I sign my name "Woodchuck Canuck", not to be confused by "The Woodchuck Canuck" or the website of the same name.

By the way, you won't have any difficulty understanding Aussie humour, because it's little different from Canadian humour. We have a few other Canucks visit this site from time to time, so you may recognise them from one of the Canadian forums.

    Howard,

    Welcome.

Nice of you to put together some nice words about our timber. I came by some Rock Maple the other day some of it with a fiddleback effect and it is not too bad. It came from Canada originally. I suggest you also have some good timbers.

    Default It's Great To See

UK-type spelling on a forum - all those Yanks in SUCH a rush - they've got no sense of humour/humor.

Actually, I travelled through most of the Middle East and Western Europe more than 20 years ago and met up with tons of Aussies & New Zealanders.

    You guys are NUTS!!

I never had that much fun or got thrown out of so many bars until I met up with your countrymen. I STILL talk about a campfire, a shovel and a very conservative Scandinavian going off to the bushes to answer nature's call and the stunned look on his face when he returned.

    All the very best.

    Neil,

Wasnt there some sort of hidden by-law ex-communicating Canadians from Canadia ?

I've got mates that can design filters for the web site it you want....
