    Default Frustrating weekend coming up

Fellow woodworkers. I was going to start on a project this weekend which would have involved using some long clamps (at least 1.8m0. I have bought the 3/4 inch pipe and thinking I could (easily ???) get the pipe clamp fittings from Carbatech I got a surprise when the phone number I rang said ring Brisbane. I know I can get the fittings from mail order but does anyone know where I can pick them up this weekend. I am in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and could possibly at a pinch make some up as I have some metalworking gear. A big thank you for anyone that can steer me in the right direction.

You can get a version of them at Bunnings.

They are not as good as the CT ones as they tend to slip.

At a pinch I guess you could take them apart and file the teeth on the gripper thingy?

The hardware store over the road from the old carba tec shop in Swan street sells them, or they did last year when I tried buying some from carba tec... not as good but I have them & not a 'back order' from carba tec.

Hare & Forbes perhaps? Seen a few posts from my state of origin about them - out in Clayton on Princess Highway.

Pretty sure I've seen them at supercheap or the warehouse, if not either do hasve a long sash clamp.
How about the old Carbatec Melb, they are still trading but under another name, see what they have.
Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

The old Carbatec Melbourne are trading as Gus Tec and they are on Mountain Highway Bayswater. They have a lot of Carbatec stock. Call them on 9427 8444. I was there last Saturday. In addition I ordered stuff from Carbatec Brisbane this week and they quoted minimum 1 week delivery to Melbourne by mail! They say they're very busy.

I am not involved with either business.

    Be carefull with pipe clamps.
The old toothed type clutches are quite tolerant of pipe size.
However the plate clutch type won't fit some "non standard" pipes.
Some of the imported waterpipe is larger in od than it should be & won't fit the plate types.
If you have pipes run the caliper over them & take pipes when you buy heads.
or if you have heads take heads when you buy pipe.

I have some of the old teeth types, mine don't slip I sharpened the teeth. Some say that the tooth types bite better on gall?
    cheers
Any thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
    Most powertools have sharp teeth.
    People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.

    BTW
always get you pipes threaded both ends.
that way you can keep extending forever using pipe joiners.
    cheers

    Default Found some fittings eventually.....

Thanks for the responses,:) I managed to find some at SuperCheapAuto but only after ringing a few of them and having to convince them that they might have some:rolleyes: . Bunnies do not have them and haven't had them for some time. Gus Tec don't have a phone number, the one given to me on this BB plays a recorded message saying go to Brisbane:mad: .

Moral of the story, never assume that Carbatec or GusTec have anything, that is more dangerous than using a table saw, thicknesser and bandsaw together blindfolded!!!!!!!

Cheers, boys you've done it again. I'll be woodworking this weekend.;)
