Default GKT 55 GCE Professional 0° error

    Hi all,

I recently purchased this saw but found it had a >-1° error in the angle of the cut when the bevel adjustment was set at 0°. I sent it back for this to be fixed, got it back and found the error unchanged.

    Reference below:
The cut on the far right was done before the repair.
The next 3 cuts to the left were done after the repair. As you can see the repair has made no difference.

The cut on the far left was done after I adjusted and locked the saw above 0°. I let the rear of the saw touch the grub screw stop and then I held the front of the saw still while the wing bolt was tightened. Do this causes some warp in the base plate so it’s not a fix. See attached.

The cuts were done at full depth, using a Bosch rail.

The problem is I think that the grub screw used to set 0° is on the rear of the saw only. Letting the saw settle at this stop means the front of the saw droops slightly and then tightening the front wing bolt pushes the front of the saw further below 0° due to the direction of the rotation of that bolt.

Maybe there’s something wrong with this particular saw or maybe it’s a design issue, either way the saw is IMHO not fit for purpose. In the 6 weeks since I purchased it I have not been able to use the saw.

I'd welcome any informed comment from you guys.

    Hi Jaded62

Have you watched the video on the Bosch website about how NOT to adjust the bevel settings for your saw? If the T knobs are tightened while pushing down on the saw (even lightly) the base will warp. Not sure if this is related to your issue but I must admit to shaking my head while watching the video - are bosch serious about putting something so flimsily constructed as the base of a power saw.

Bosch won't give me a refund but are sending me a new saw, so that's something.

Old saw picked up and new saw delivered. All I've done so far is a test cut but that was spot on. I assume then that the issue was the particular saw I got the first time rather than a design issue.
