GSR vs GDR 10.8v Bosch drills
Hey there, came across this forum whilst looking for a brushless + lipo setup for drills, anyway I came across the bosch GDR 10.8v drill which is perfect for what I need, only like 1kg and goes hard at 100nm of torque. And I can't go back to using a normal drill now that I've used a impact driver, I can't even imagine how we used to use them! Anyway, I don't see why the GDR 10.8v drill (non impact) has a market, or even value when you have the impact driver with gobs more power + impact function. Is there something that I'm missing besides the variable torque settings on the GSR 10.8v? (oh yeah and the 200grams less weight )
The only reason I'm wanting a normal drill is to put drill bits in it, and the GSR 10.8v doesn't even have a keyless chuck, so I can't see the point in buying something that is far inferior than the GDR. I noticed 2 screws on the front of the GSR, is this so you can take off the cover and change to a keyless chuck or something? I need a keyless chuck in the end, and I want something as small as possible, but not an adaptor one that you stick in a 1/4 socket. If it can't somehow incorporate a keyless chuck permanently, then I'll just stick an adaptor on, cause in the end I want to have the same battery / charger for both units.
If someone could give me some insight to the 2 products and why they even have the GSR if the GDR is so good, that would be great.
Oh yeah forgot to mention that I don't think that the drills are brushless but thats fine with me, I've got 3 out of the 4 things i wanted: light, impact, lipo and brushless. Being into the RC cars, I know how much potential the lipos + brushless motors have. I've got a 1/18th scale onroad car which are capable of about 100kph with this setup (that is if you can keep it on the road) Heres a link to those who may be interested: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csx-z6H7XuE"]YouTube - 540 Micro RS4 vs 1/10th Nitro[/ame]

What you want is one of these, also lithium ion. It is pictured with a 1/4 inch hex, however it also comes with a keyless steel chuck that can be attached. Not like an add on, but integrates like it was born there. In low speed it has heaps of grunt for what it is.

You can't get an impact driver that has a chuck as the manufacturers don't want to warranty it. They simply won't last.

Ah that makes sense, though I'm not really after a impact driver with a keyless chuck, it would have been nice to stick it on the same drill, but anything similar would be fine too, I want to be able to use the same batteries / chargers though.
Do metabo products still get produced in China? And do they offer a small compact impact drill?
Do you think I could 'swap' the 1/4 drive from the GSR to a keyless chuck setup? Mabye with a little bit of machining?

What the, I just pressed submit post and it didnt work.... damnit now I need to write it all over again....
I'm after a non impact drill to do my drilling (ie have a Chuck), thats why I'm looking at the other drill as an option. But now that you have mentioned it, it seems best not to go down the path of impact driver + keyless chuck incase I would do that as an option. I've heard that keyless chuck adaptors arn't that great, so one on a impact driver would be even worse.
Do metabo products still get produced in China? and do they have small / compact impact drivers with the same battery / charger as the one you posted? I'm after a combo. I don't think they have both.
How does the keyless chuck attatch to the drill? mabye I could use it on the Bosch somehow....
Cheers
