Hand Held Mulcher/Blower - needs cart
Hi all,
I've been using a very, very loud electric mulcher/blower to clean up the yard leaves and give the workshop a good blowing out every few months.
I'd like to build a muffler around it to reduce the noise so I can use it whenever I want.
I'd also like to build a push cart for it so I don't have to strap it to my back. And push it around like a vacuum cleaner.
Has anyone done this?
Has anyone seen one?
Does anyone have any thoughts on the idea?
Does anyone have any thoughts on the design of a muffling cart?

G'day Barry,
From the tide of responses you’re no doubt blazing a new trail.
Depending on the source of the noise there could be a couple of cheap things to try. Firstly if it’s the exhaust you can buy bit of dimpled foam (the type that look similar to the hill and valley pattern of an egg crate). Make a cylinder to fit around the exhaust, taper. Make it as long as is practical, say at least 1 foot. Taper it down slightly towards the open end, but not enough to create any noticeable back pressure. This would baffle and absorb a fair amount of noise energy.
Another option would be to fit a large ‘modified’ oil filter over the exhaust, but this would take some work not to mention getting hold of a suitable filter.
If noise is coming from the fan casing you could apply a similar philosophy and encapsulate it loosely in a similar noise absorbing material. Just watch out that you don’t insulate too well as heat might soon be a problem around the casing.
Another option along the vacuum line, encase the main unit in a ply/mdf carcass that has been lined with the sound insulation?
Best wishes,
Mark
