Heavy duty routers
Has anyone imported one of the Scheer 1st choice or Mafelle 2nd choice or Fein heavy duty routers from the UK?? each time i do a little research the cost of postage is seriously high.

You might want to check out the Makita RP2300 or Makita RP2301.
I've got the 2300wat RP2300 version and its crazy powerfull and smooth. Never misses a beat.
Plus the integrated "router table lift" works great. Its just a bolt thru the bottom of the router to the motor assembly.

Just be careful with the imported routers as they haven't got Australian c tick approvals. Insurance companies have in the past voided claims since they have found this loop hole. The other drama you will have is warranty doesn't carry over to Australia & parts will practically be non existant if there not Australian models

The brands I am looking at aren't sold in Australia. Scheer was at one time and really looking to replace mine. I had it for close to 30 years and worked it to death.
I know i paid a bomb for it in the first place but they are very serious machine. Still used in the US and Europe for large frame building etc.

If you're interested in Scheer, Mafell or Fein you should try Germany. Bigger market place (2nd hand), 230V and postage will be sufferable. Parts? The only thing that will fail on these brands are the bearings and they're standard worldwide.
DamienIs it wrong to be in love with a sawbench?

Its a shame the only high end machine in Aust is Festo. Its not untill you have owned or used a Scheer Router which have been around since Adam was boy you know what a true heavy duty router is.
I did my apprenticeship with Scheer routers and when i had the chance to buy one again i did. As i said some 30 yrs later looking at another.
