need help with scmc
I have just bought a second hand ryobi 254mm slide compound saw with laser
with no manual, when i got home i noticed that the laser beam was not square IE I squared a piece of 130mm and the laser was off to the left of the pencil line. I notice that there is a screw where the laser is I assume this is for adjustment ( I hope). My problem is making the laser square so if I pencil a square line accross the timber do I adjust the laser to this. Also with the 130mm timber the saw cuts about 1mm off to the right over the length, same with a miter. Maybe this is acceptable ??????? I would rather it be correct though. Any help with the laser and the other adjustments.
I guess I could use a square and test that the blade is square to the fence and also against the blade for cutting down. Is this correct, in other words adjusting everything
thank you

Try the ryobi web site. They have downloads for manuals.

Hi Macklin, I have a Ryobi SCMS and have found the laser to be useless. I haven't turned it on since the day I bought the saw. It's a gimmick, as are most of the laser guided tools. The fact that the laser itself has several mm of play should turn you off. I saw a drill press at Bunnings the other day with a laser guide. Who the hell would use a laser to predict where the drill will hit, rather than just pull the handle and check???
Anyway, forget the laser and the saw is quite good. Regarding the accuracy, don't rely on the detente settings at 90 and 45 degrees etc. Set the blade angle manually using a square (and test cuts) and then use the thumb screws to lock the position. The detente settings have too much play.
I manually check all my tools rather than rely on markings, settings and lasers. They are all too inaccurate.
Good luck.
