HELP NEEDED! Which SCMS do I choose?
The 3 options are:
Dewalt DW718XE, Makita LS1214 and Bosch GCM12SD. All are about the same price but I cannot make a decision.
Bosch Pro's- Many features, ease of bevel adjustments, belt drive
Bosch Con's- Not many people have/recommend, slightly larger unit.
Makita Pro's- Light, large table, definately the peoples choice.
Makita Con's- Ordinary trenching, dust extraction not as well designed.
Dewalt Pro's- Laser allignment, belt driven, 3 yr warranty
Dewalt Con's- Like Bosch, not many people have/recommend.
Any advise would be great.
Cheers.

Hi BMD
I have the Bosch GCM12SD. It is large and heavy, but easy to use and very accurate. If I was looking for one now knowing what I do I would go for the 10". I was going to mount the saw into a bench, but at 1000mm deep thats a very wide bench. The few times I have used the extra depth of cut, for me isn't justified by the overall size.

There is heaps of info on scms's if you do a search.
Your choice will depend on what you need it to do and how much you are prepared to spend.
Last year I bought a Makita LS 1013 because I needed it to be portable and it was on special for $799 (about $100 off) at a Tradies Expo.
I am more than happy with it.Jack

Scms
Makita is No 1. The others you're looking are good, but you will not find too many people saying anything crook about Makita

Yeah I have done searches on the forum and the pro's/con's I listed were the result. The 10" would suffice but am only looking that the 12" as I can get the Bunnings price match discount, around $810 for the 1214 and $891 for the GCM12SD.
I've now struck the Dewalt off the list as the slide movement is not as good as the Bosch or Makita and (Although possibly a moot point on all three) the dust collection just looks like it will not work.
Is a belt drive setup really that much better?

I've got the 12" Hitachi SCMS with laser & digital readouts, it seems to be an excellent unit 6 months on.
DeWalt were having trouble with the trigger/switch failure according to some members who had them.

hitachi do great SCMS's the current 12 inch with all the bells and whistles is a bit on the heavy side, an excellent saw though if you don't plan on moving it.
the 10 inch with the laser is a great saw, in my opinion better than the maks, buy a freud blade to go with it and you'll have a superior machine, in my humble opinion.

Makita gets my vote and their price is extremely reasonable at the moment, especially if a 10 inch suits your needs.

I was wondering why you've placed belt drive as a positive?
In my book, direct drive like the Makita is the way to go, one less thing to fail you?The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

I've actually changed my theories since I posted that remark and also my SCMS requirements. Have now changed my choices to the Makita LS1013B or Hitachi C10FSH.
Does anyone have a B series Makita SCMS and confirm whether the plastic vortex dust collector actually works?
