more help needed with splitter/guard
All,
as posted elsewhere I am fabricating a splitter/guard for my 2nd hand generic Taiwanese 12" TS. I notice from photos that the splitter appears to sit up off the table. I'm assuming that this is neccesary because as the blade is tilted down the splitter gets closer to the table. Can people tell me what this clearance is on their machines please. Thanks in advance,

I know it's not the 12" jobbie, but the Jet 10" Contractors Saw has 2.8mm.
Surprising really - I guessed twice that - must be the reflection in the shiny metal top!
Cheers,

There is no standard clearance height that I know of. My 12" Caeba-tec's splitter adjusts from bolts at the rear, and there is about an inch of leeway in total (from memory) at this point. The fitting maintains the splitter parallel to the surface. In other words, you can set it flush with the table (i.e. resting on the table), or raise it up a few mm equally along its length. If I set it flush, then the mechanism scrapes on the rear fence rail. So I raise it a mm or two. But I'd set it flush if I were cutting very thin board and was concerned that it would jam underneath.
