Which is the best hammer drill under $200?
Hi All!
This is my first post here. I am a DIYer. I want to buy a compact drill/driver under $150, which is comfortable in my hands. I want it for my home projects and nothing heavy-duty. Can anybody guide me? I have heard that corded drills offer more power than cordless ones...

Ozito at Bunnies.
After I killed the first one, I went & bought another, they had gone up from $69 to $79.
You have to work them hard to kill them.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

A second hand quality name brand tool.
Older AEG (Blue), Metabo (Green), or Bosch (Blue) tools are usually superb quality, long lasting tools.
You'll be buying a lot more performance, and possibly even a longer life for your dollar with a carefully chosen older tool.
Their contemporary equivalents just aren't comparable anymore. Plastic replaces alloy, copper windings are lightweight, and bearings are not the long-life expensive ones generally used in older tools.
Just make sure the tool is still in good condition. A visual inspection and if possible a short run will soon let you know whether a tool has been worked to within an inch of its life.Sycophant to nobody!

And a fourth (or fifth or sixth??) for the el cheapo, no-we-didn't-borrow-the-design-from-some-other-company-certainly-not-an-old-Hilti-model, Ozito.
However, do you mean 'hammer drill' for drilling teeny-weenie 5-15mm holes to take picture hooks or thread electrical cable through, or do you mean 'HAMMER DRILL' for drilling 25x600mm deep holes to insert rebar into concrete?
If it's the first, any of the name brand (Bosch, Makita, DeWalt, Metabo, Milwaukee, Ramset, Hitachi, ....) should do you fine. I've had a 600 watt Bosch for over 25 years and it's still going strong, but depending on your use you may not need that much power.
If it's the second, and you want premium trade quality, then Hilti is the name to look for - otherwise, same brands as above, but look for models with an SDS chuck, as the SDS chuck doesn't loosen up like a standard jacobs style chuck when used in hammer mode.
Budget wise, try the Einhell stuff, which I think is available in India.

Whatever brand you go for, you'll probably find it cheaper on ebay UK, as Australia tends to get 'the rough end of the pineapple' when it comes to tool prices!

If your after a hammer drill under $200 I would suggest the einhell 1050w 2 speed usually sells for under $200 & is backed by a 2year trade warranty, they also have rotary hammer drills like the hilti for under $200. If your mainly doing timber work I would suggest you go for the hammer drill as a rotary hammer drill safety clutch would kick in too early on Timber applications

Hi All,
Thanks for guiding me so well. So many brand names came up that the choice became a little overwhelming. But then I went ahead and searched and zeroed in on the Makita HP2050, which costs under $100. Read its review at Makita HP2050 Review | The Power Tools Spot. Then I compared it with Bosch 1191VSRK and read its review at Bosch 1191VSRK 120-Volt 1/2-Inch Single-Speed Hammer Drill - Amazon.com. Both are available on eBay also but Bosch is less priced at under $75 on eBay and I saw many other models also for Bosch on eBay. So I am planning to go for Bosch. I just hope these guys ship to my location...
Once again thanks to all of you. I really appreciate your help. Will get back in case I have more questions.
