Default Hitachi 10" slide cmpnd mitre saw

I have been doing a bit of research on slide cmpd mitre saws of late because I'm unhappy with my Elu ps174 and Hitachi 10cfh. They are good tools but have limited capacity. The Elu only does about 75mm depth of cut and has no trenching capability, the Hitachi just can't quite cut 100mm dimensions. It's awkward needing to carry two saws sometimes.
I have found that the Hitachi 10" saws actually come with a 262mm blade as opposed to a 255mm so can cut 100mm posts etc. At the moment, I have found a 10fsb for sale for $859 and includes a Hitachi 1/2" router valued at $350. Which sound like fantastic value, but I was surprised how small the table of these saws are. Does anyone have experience with using one and can comment on the functionality of it please?

    Cheers
    Michael

I don't have personal experience with this model but I own a Bosch 10 inch SCMS which I really like a lot.
Here is a review of the 12 inch version of the Hitachi:

    Here is their conclusion:
    Conclusions

    <table align="right" border="0" cellpadding="8" cellspacing="1" width="160"> <tbody><tr> <td>

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> The Hitachi C 12RSHH is a well-built, cleverly designed tool that brings a full set of capabilities and cutting capacities to woodworking shops or the job site for contractors. The unique space-saving sliding mechanism works very well and will prove crucial to many woodworkers and contractors who can ill afford sacrificing floor space.

Sounds like the small footprint is seen as a plus, even for the 12 inch saw.

Here is a discussion of the 10inch version on another forum:

Got my C10FS probably about 5 years ago. Extremely happy. Don't think it will cut much more than about 90mm. It is accurate enough that I have used it to cut the 64 squares for a chessboard and then the mitres for the border with nothing more than a stop block and the default 45 settings and it all fits!

Hi Krazee, the builder I was with the other day had one and was cutting 100mm posts. Pity I didn't think to ask him for his observations on it. I checked the saw in the shop and it can cut 100mm too, but that is with a 262mm blade. Glad to hear it is nice and accurate - I would want to do fit outs with it too and retire the Elu to shop work.

Scribbly, thanks for finding those links for me, very useful...

If you look for Roger Gifkins website (the dovetail guy) you will find plans for a fence for the Hitachi 10in. if you are looking for exact work that would be the way to go. I have a 12in Makita myself but the extra depth of cut is hardly used (and always for the wrong purposes).

It's worth a look at his plans.
