    Default Jet 10" Supersaw owners

Thinking of buying one but noticed the motor is only 1.75HP when compared with others like the TSC-10HB etc they have 3HP. Anybody find them underpowered?

    Regards
    Greg

And overpriced compared to TSC10HB. I had ordered a Supersaw but got p155ed off with local supplier when on day of pickup they realised that they sold more than they were getting. Then after joining this forum ordered the 10HB, which I got a week later. Could not be happier withsaw and service.
    Thanks Kev.

    Greg,

I ripped and crosscut some 40mm River Redgum without any problems. So it is powerful enough for me.

    Go the supersaw!

Speaking of the Supersaw, I have here at work the Pommy mag Furniture and Cabinet Making .

They have an ad on the back for the SS - with the sliding table -on special for 1,000 pounds .

That's $2,378 in Aussie dollars.

And this is a special deal. They say the regular price is 1299 pounds or $3,091 Aussie

And we reckon we pay too much for it at around $1900.

    Sorry for the highjack

    As you were.

I've got the supersaw and I have been cutting 40mm jarrah - crosscut - upto 270 mm wide with no trouble. I have not ripped a long piece of hardwood yet .
I have cut melamine sheets and using the Linbide blade 60 tooth and a steady feed rate I get clean cuts with no chipping.

    regards,
    Smithy

It is a bit dodgy trying to compare prices directly from one country to another. There are many things to concider, local wages, rates, land prices etc, etc. There are also things like import export duties and the VAT (GST) is 17% not 10%.

What I want to know is why we pay 600% more in Australia for birthday and annversary cards and then they have the cheek to print the price on the back, it's like leaving the price on a Christmas present.

Well I take your point about different factors in diferent countries, and that the UK vat is 17% and not 10% but an $1100 AUD difference in price for the same item?

I think somebody's having a lend of our poor pommy brothers and sisters.

Re the cards: I never buy them

Well not that much more though.

Googling says UK Average Weekly Earnings are 475 pounds or $1,121.

    Aus AWE are $1,025.

    Both figures are for 2004.

It's not just the VAT of duties to take into concideration though. The EEC has stricter controls on machinery, addressing issues like safety. For instance saws in the UK cannot be made to take a dado blade, so the arbors have to redesigned. Motor casing might be different. There are also trade offsets, it might be that China imposed larger export charges to the EEC than here.

Another major issue is the dreaded market forces, the suppliers might be forced to supply at a fixed price, just like Meile does in Australia.

    Thumbs up

I am running a 60 tooth Freud blade in my Supersaw. I have been cross cutting Ironwood up to 50mm no problems .

Ripping is fine, but the saw struggles a bit on 70mm thick material (but I suppose at that thickness I really should be using a bandsaw).

Melamine cuts cleanly with no chipout.

1.75 hp is about the max you would want to use on a single phase machine plugged into a standard 10 amp household GPO.
