Jet Micro Glide Fence
I currently have the standard rip fence on my Jet contractor saw and was wondering if the Jet Micro Glide fence was a large improvement or not. At around the $200 mark it's not a great deal of money if I am going to get a much better fence, however if there is no advantage $200 is a lot of money.
Any feedback would be helpful.
Regards,
Peter.

Peter,
I have just purchased a new Jet Table Saw, when I first looked at it, it was going to be supplied with the standard rip fence. I held off until after Christmas, when I went back I was informed they now come with the Micro Glide as standard. It is a much better fence and assembled very easily.
There are also tracks for auxilary fences and addon as well that are not on the standard version. Mine aligns perfectly to both the mitre slot and blade.

I have found that the Microglide bit is a bit useless. I am not saying that the guide is not a good one, just that the wheel adjustment idea does not seem to work very well for me. Little knocks with my knuckles appear to do a much better job. It is probably worth the money.
There are three things that affect your accuracy with a table saw:
1) The blade set up
2) The table itself
3) The fence
4) You
5) blade sharpness and teeth set
6) The timber itself
7) The splitter
8) Ok so there are more than three things but the guide is VERY important.Bob Willson

Thanks for the replies. So I guess what you're saying is "yes" it is an improvement on what I have, but as always, you get what you pay for and $200 will only improve so far.

Jet Micro Glide
Hey Peter,
I have a Jet Super Saw which has the MicroGlide fence as standard. I find it a great unit. It is stable, has t-tracks for attaching other bits like sacrificial fence faces, featherboards etc and it is extremely accurate. (Obviously the initial setup is important) but it holds its accuracy and the rear track assists it to maintain rigidity. I have sawn 8x4 sheets of 25mm ply without a movement from it.
I reckon its worth the money - but thats just my opinion - and I dont know how much you use your saw.
Cheers

Hi Graeme,
Are you saying that the microglide fence is supported on the rear track better than the standard fence which is just "sitting" on the track. Does it clamp to the rear track or what ????
Thanks,
Peter.
