    Question Jigsaw and Router

Hi All, first post here. I finally got around to buying some of my (very first) wood working kit. After a long time reading these forums, I settled on a Bosch Blue 550W Jig Saw and a Renegade Industrial Router (1500W) from Trade tools.

Firstly I love the Bosch Jig Saw, its cutting through wonderfully straight, well balanced, no vibration and is just a joy to assemble and use.

The Renegade Router on the other hand feels poorly manufactured, the guides are inaccurate, the plunge action clumsy and bit / collet change over is very difficult (requires a screwdriver to remove the bit).

Thinking of taking the Renegade back, but I've already done an hours worth of work on it.....

    What do you think?..

Take it back. You can't know that it isn't fit for purpose without trying it.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

...yup take it back if it feels at all stiff and awkward.
Get yourself a Triton, you won't regret it, or an OF2200

was thinking about swapping for a Makita https://www.tradetools.com/products/RP0900X1.

It would mean I would be "downsizing" to a 900W instead of 1500W and 1/4" collet instead of 1/2" collet. But I guess build quality would be far superior. Nice thing would be drop in weight.

Didn't want to spend more than $200 - I will using it mainly handheld to round off MDF and some hardwood occasionally.

The Makita will probably be a better quality tool and will still do what you want. Large range or 1/4" bits are available and 8mm bits can be obtained although not as easily (Festool or on line).
Any product that includes a heap of bits is likely to be a bit sus when you consider the cost of the bits and the package price.

Very often it is a matter of you get what you pay for.
