    Default Which Router table??

Good quality, easy to use is all I ask. I have no idea what I am looking at in the router table world so I would greatly appreciate some direction from your knowledge base. I would prefer a full table height model on a heavy stable base. I am prepared to spend from $500-$1000 but if there's a cheaper option I would love to know about it. I use my router quite alot and I am regulaly frustrated at not having a table to utilise. A bench with a saw as well would be a bonus. Are any of the american brands worth looking at and is there an issue with the power difference ie. converting to 240 volt??

    Default Table

Hi, new here myself, why not make your own? heaps of plans out there, just "Google" Router table plans, as I have, when I can get back into my shed, I will start to build one, what others have done is, had a look at Stores that sell em, have a good look, pick the good and bad points, come up with your own ideas, and make your own, portable or affixed, even plans out there with duct extraction systems all homemade, some free plans and desings, if you want, can pay for plans, nothing beats the satisfaction of building something with your own hands.
    Good luck

Agree with WazOz. Mine is a bench top made from scraps of whatever I had laying around, with a flat bit of melamine for the top. After a year or two I added sides to keep the noise down, and later added better dust extraction. It has a 4x2 screwed to the bottom which clamps into the B&D workmate and puts the table at the right height. You can buy an insert if you don't want to make your own. Then with the $800 you didn't spend on a router table, get some better tools or table saw etc etc.

    Hi Gumborer

Build your own, that way you get what you want .

Have a search in the router sections.

    This is mine and am very happy with it;

People tend to get carried away with how they are built. The main thing IMO is a nice, heavy, flat top and some sort of cabinet to catch the dust and shut up the noise a bit.

    Good luck.

Hey Gumborer (the long lost son of me and Wood Borer  )

Have a look at Professional Woodwork Supplies. I picked up my router table top from them on Friday and I'm very happy with it. I'll probably build the cabinet but they also have a new Incra Router table cabinet available for those who don't want to make their own. The table tops are available in 3 sizes and you can buy the mounting plate with 3 insert rings as well. It's flat and very solid.

Nice article on building a simple router table in latest Aussie Wood Review. The author opts for the Unilift table mentioned in other posts.

Thanks to all for your direction and ideas. Woodwork supplies website certainly has some top quality merchandise. Great work dazzler on your home made bench. I'm hoping to get more time in the shed as the kids get a little older and with the info you all provided me I reckon I'll have a crack at building my own table and lash out and get a Unilift system.

    Thanks all.

How about this for a home made router table:

I love the neat design, the workmanship and the nifty arrangement for levelling the router plate.

    Coldamus (or others),
That is one neat router table from Dizzy. Also looked at the updated woodpecker lift and Incra 16 jig.
QUESTION: He used, machined and drilled what he referred to as "HDFE". What does the acronym stand for? Looks to be like cutting board acrylic.

I do try to maintain the decorum of the forum and have vowed to never discuss sharpening again to keep that promise but ....
the thought of Gumby and Woodborer having a love child will keep me awake for nights!
However, the lack of typos does indicate that gumborer may be a distant relative

    High Density PolyEthylene

As you say, similar to cutting board plastic (which is Low Density PE I think)

There is also Ultra High Molecular Weight PE (UHMW PE, or just UHMW) that is used by some for similar purposes.
