    Default Kity 638 Planer/thicknesser

I have recently aquired a brand new Kity 638 Planer/thicknesser, and did not come with any manuals.
My problem is that It wont start.
I know from looking that there are 3 proximity switches that all link together to stop the planer being used at the same time as the thicknesser etc.
But does anyone out ther own this machine that I could get decent info from and also the correct way to set up the blades etc.
    thanks

    Hi Chris,
I suggest you enter Kity 638 Planer/thicknesser in google. I suspect there are not too many around.

    Default Kity manuals

    Hi there Vamvany,
I bought a second hand Robland a year ago and to get a manual for it I went straight back to the manufacturer and they sent me a manual free of charge.
Maybe you could do the same with Kity in France(?) .

    Cheers Ozzie

I think you might be right there Mark but it may still be worth a try since it wasnt that long ago that I heard that. Failing that there must be someone on this Forum who has one of these machines.

I might be wrong, and you may have already tried this. If there is a big red emergency off switch, they need to be turned so that it pop's out, then try starting it.

    Chris, welcome
my dad has a Kity planer/thicknesser, I can't remember the model number but from memory in operation the 8, 10 and 12 inch machines really only differed in the cutter width. If you want drop me a PM and I can arrange to get a photocopy of his Kity manual to you.
As I understand it (ref is the UK mag Furniture & Cabinet Making), Kity, after going broke, was taken over by Scheppach who continue to support Kity machines. I'm not sure, but it's even possible that the Scheppach machines (stocked by Carbatec) are clones/copies of the Kity machines — worth asking.

One thing to check for is your power supply. Dad's Kity needs a 15 Amp outlet. This could be your problem.

    Ian,

The Sheppach machines are not the same as the Kity machines.

As Scheppach have now restarted Kity production you could drop a mail to the UK importers who might be able to assist:

Yet, there might be another safety switch inside the cabinet/stand which needs to be “ON”. I had the same experience with my Powermatic jointer.

    Good luck

I have a Kity 638. Had it for years. Mightily impressed with its price/performance balance. Let me know what you want, or perhaps set up a time to call so I can talk you through starting/changeover/blade adjustment procedures.

Many machines have guard kill switches, if the guards aren't in place it won't start. I don't know if it true of the Kitty but its good practice anyway when swapping the guards from thicknesser to planner to make sure they are properly seated.
