I recall being told that laptops only have a specific number of times they can be recharged so this may apply to Li-On cordless drills also.

No it isn't, a wet cell has an indefinite number of recharges and the differences may be in years (cars for instance), nicads are the same. The new generation Li-On batteries are fairly specific on the number of recharges and this has not been the case with old technology.

More about Lithium-ion batteries
Hi,
to clarify a statement I said above - from the day that a Lithium-ion battery is manufactured, its energy capacity (i.e. how much charge it can take) starts decreasing with time. This means that if a Lithium-ion battery inside a cordless power tool sits on a shop shelf for a year, that power tool then has less capacity that if you buy it fresh from the manufacturer. A Lithium-ion battery is basically low-capacity (almost dead) after 3 years regardless of how often or how infrequently it is charged.
The big advantage of Lithium-ion is its energy density per battery weight - I can't remember off hand the ratios but I think that a Lithium-ion battery can hold 4 to 6 times the amount of charge than the same weight Ni-cad battery can. Hence this is why PC manufacturers liked it as they could make their laptops and notebooks smaller and lighter.
The old-fashioned Ni-cad battery is ideally suited to cordless tools used by tradesmen. It liked being frequently fully discharged and then fully charged at a fast rate. This prolonged its life so you would expect to get over 1000 charges per Ni-cad battery before it died. That is why Makita still have lots of Ni-cad powered power tools.
However for the casual or weekend user, the fast self-discharge rate of Ni-cads when not used, and their infrequent use & light charging (which shortened the battery life), tends to make them unsatisfactory in cordless tools.
FWIW, I think the above reasons are why power tool manufacturers have been slow to use Lithium-ion batteries in their power tools - they're waiting until this type of battery has a long enough history in actual use so they know its advantages and disadvantages.

That clarifies things, thanks Paul. My experience with Lithium batteries of any description has been in model aircraft and they are Lithium Polymer. These in the past have demanded great respect as they are potential bombs, literally. Give one a hard time and they blow up and you don't want to be anywhere near one when it does. This is the remains of an explosion....

A plane hit the ground hard and the battery blew up on impact. I think I will stick to Nicads for the foreseeable future in tools as they appear to me at least, to be the best compromise.CHRIS

Thanks everybody for your support...
I am trying to find out all i can about this company. I've contacted the indonesian embassy in Spain to see what they can do....
Next step will be to contact Spanish embassy in Indonesia...
I have even have spoken with the " owner " Mr Aksara Wijaya by MSN.
And after a long conversation he says he can't give me back the money and that i have to pay him $500 to do the minimum for international orders. He said the offer was made by Mr Deddy Oktavianus ( his seller ) and that it was a mistake. So now he said he will send me a UPS invoice to
show me he is true and that when I pay him he will send me the package.
Of course i don't beleive him.
He told me that if I know someone in Indonesia i could send him to his shop and paying him the 500 dollars he would give him the package for shipping...
The truth is that i don't beleive anything he tells me, but tobe honest, If i had a total warranty that paying $500 i would receive the batteries I would pay it. They would be the cheapest!!!!
Thanks again everybody for your answers and i will keep you informed about anything new....

I have a friend with connections in Indonesia. I will see if he knows anyone who breaks arms and legs for a price! I notice adverts at the bottom of his home page for some very prominent courier companies. I am sure they would not like to be associated with a scam. maybe an email to them could put pressure on him as well.

He has a feedback page so we should all send him some feedback telling him that if he doesn't honour his undertaking every woodwork forum in the world will be told of his shonky ways. Anyone up for this to help a fellow woody on the other side of the world?

Go with thew Milwaukee. It's a great drill with heaps of grunt. It was judged a superior drill in a recent cordless drill review in the US. Dewalt came in first (NiCd), then Makita and Hitachi tied at second place (Li-ion), then the Milwaukee, then there was daylight.
Hope this helps.

I think I saw a saw a recall on Milwaukee drills recently because of a charger fault which can cause betteries to explode. Not sure which ones but if you have one you should check the Milwaukee web site.

We all should get behind Pepe and show support. This Indonesian cunning and manipulative thief should have charges laid against him and shutdown forever never to be allowed to run a business.
All woodworkers around the world stay away from this fraud and pass on this message to all others before they are burnt.
Pepe, do not let this low life get away with this; there are international lawyers that can help you.
Aksara or whatever your name is, you can run but never hide; the day will come where you'll cross paths with someone you will deeply regret you ever met; there are others much better than you. If you are reading this post, I hope you are, ask yourself this question:
What is the reward for thieving?
You will do this only if you have a conscience, which you don't. How will you react if someone took away everything you own?
Aksara, there are 2 types of people on earth:
1. Genuinely smart people, and
2. Stupid people who think they are smart. Which one are you?
You can laugh and tell eveyone to get %$#k but in the end everything you have amounts to nothing; it is worthless just like you, SCUM.
