Nice collection - New plane cupboard on the drawing board?
Well done, Bodgy. You've done nicely to gather that many for $300, especially the #2. I've seen some of these go on eBay for that much by themselves. Maybe there's different editions of the #2? Had any luck with a #1?
I'm still learning as I collect. One thing I learnt very quickly is that they are generally much cheaper in the USA - most of them, anyway. Fortunately for me my son has an apartment in Iowa City and travels between OZ & US fairly frequently. I can get anything that grabs my fancy over there sent to his place for around US$6 - $10 and he brings it home when he comes. No probs with customs so far, but he's been a bit close to his weight limit, which is one of the reasons I've tended to go for the block planes in particular.
I did get a very nice Stanley #55 over here with all the cutters (4 boxes of them) recently, but you pay a lot of money for them. Fortunately you've only got to buy one.
My intention is to buy a few extra in the US while they're cheap & sell them once I've got them back here. I can rationalise this by convincing myself that I may get most of my collection for nothing if it all works out. Early days yet though. My wife, and I think they say SWMBO here, doesn't see the fiscal beauty of this scheme just yet.
I picked a couple of really nice Stanley 220 (yes, I know they're common) for US$12 with their original boxes. The same thing seems to sell over here for $25 - $40 for good ones.
I'll see if I can do an inventory shortly and/or post a couple of pics. Anyway, as you say, i'ts all great fun - if somewhat expensive.
