I bought a Makita 3707FC trimmer yesterday. It cost me $290. I gave it a first run this morning and it's a little ripper. The soft start is really nice and the little LED lights help you see what you are doing. It is quite comfortable to hold and steer as well.

There is a Bosch Colt available in the USA. The Australian equivalent is a Bosch GMR 1. The main difference between the US and Aussie versions is that the US version, the Colt, has variable speed whereas the Aussie one doesn't.

Popular Woodworking Magazine did a review of trimmers in their June 2006 issue. They rated the Bosch Colt as being the best one of the trimmers they tested, with the Makita 3707FC coming a close second. Both the Bosch Colt and the Makita 3707FC were given Editors Choice awards as a result of the review. Most of the trimmers tested are not available in Australia. The Bosch Colt, Craftsman 27715, Dewalt DW670, Freud FT750T, Grizzly H7790, Makita 3707FC, Porter-Cable 7310 and the Rigid R2400 were all reviewed.

Recently purchased (a couple of months ago) a Bosch GMR1 for $200. So far excellent.

Mirboo thanks for the information. It is a shame that they only sell this in USA, not even in Europe. It would have been nice to get the combo pack. Krazee, where did you get the Bosch? $200 is an excellent value.

    Cool Trimmer Magic....

Great reading the types you all have I have a Torquata that I have used constantly over the past four years.....opps should be three years sorry, it sat still for a year.....think it went into shock........But bought myself a GMCtrimmer for $80.....actually wanted to have a back up & couldn't resist at that price.......was buyindg one as a present for someone, was silly to buy just one when I really could have one .... waiting to use as a back up.... but I don't mind the smell of new machinery, its in my walk in robe with the new drill wait too! Ok so I'm not a cupboard drinker....just collect new woodworking tools, promise....
Strange cant wait to use them, but hope the other stuff will keep going for a while....worried about when I can't afford to buy new stuff so this is my rainy day cashe....LOL
Meanwhile my little orange Torquata works so fantastic I will just plug away with that one...........I love the fact they are so small & compact routing around the door frames and edges is such a dream.....remembering I only work with Pine its running pur..ur..ur..fect. Hope you all use them heaps...good trimming to everyone!
Don't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!
I'm passionate about woodwork.......making Sawdust again & loving it!

Got it at local Total Tools. I was looking at a more expensive Makita and not willing to pay their price. They said the Bosch was to be on special next week and would give it to me for $199 so paid the cash and left before they changed their mind.
