This looks interesting
I saw this in the latest Timbecon flyer.
It looks like o.k. value for $250.
On the face of it it looks as though you'd be able to use it to sharpen jointer and planer blades, although perhaps you'd be better off paying the extra $100 for a proper surface grinder.
Whadya reckon?

I dunno...that looks pretty good.....
Quite tempting actually as I still need a good grinder for sharpening (especially with the continuous delays of Triton's one)"Clear, Ease Springs"

Wow, my quote of a quote is being used as a quote.

The term 'grammar nazi' was invented to make people, who don't know their grammar, feel OK about being uneducated.

It's cheaper in AWW.
If you look in the latest AWW, the advert has the same thing for $199
I asked why & got a typical geek webmaster smart arze answer....
Kinda like 'just 'cos'.... It is something to do with marketing.
If you are serious about getting one, don't buy it over the web, buy it over the phone & quote the advert in the AWW.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

G'day,
WoodBorer was a kind bloke and lent me his, a Delta version, to sharpen my chisels etc. while I sorted myself out in setting up my b/grinder. (WB's didn't have the tool rest in the same spot as the one pictured and had a rest and jig which slid along it from above the stone and perpendicular to it)
They're very nice to use. The wet stone on it was way out of whack and needed a good flatten, which I didn't have the gear to do. I found the white stone as it rotates on a vertical plane rounds off the chisel edge etc. but after a bit brings in all even - so it does chew a bit more of your steel. The jig that come with it needs some adjustment to keep your chisels etc. sqaure in the jig, but that's easily rectified.
Worked for me.

There is, of course, a set of further alternative reasons as to why they would have two different prices for the same item in the AWW and on their flyer
a) They have decided to employ a marketing graduate and he/she has come up with this interesting pricing strategy because he/she has to change something in order to justify his/her position.
b) They are conducting some very sophisticated marketing research to determine the efficacy of above-the-line vs below-the-line marketing campaigns - in other words, see a).
c) It's a farquap.
Let's apply Occams' Razor (or, as the medical schools preach when teaching diagnostic skills: when you hear hooves, think 'horses', not 'zebras').
OK? Everybody ready?
It's a farquap, for sure. (Probably committed by the new marketing graduate).Driver of the Forums

Speaking of grinder price disparity, MIK advertise the Tormek 2006 for $945.00. Ouch! Whereas I bought one at Vijay Tools in Sydney for $750.00. Still ouch, but a $200 difference? Are the people at MIK on drugs? Great machine though. Virtually fool proof. Which is exactly what I need! The Sherwood Certainly looks interesting. And a whole lot cheaper than the Tormek. Especially at MIK prices.
I imagine you could flatten the wheels the same way as bench stones: sheet of float glass and wet and dry paper.

Just found my specials catalog & newsletter in the mail box.
I reckon the one in the AWW is wrong.
If anybody orders it at the AWW price & gets told it is a misprint, I have a copy of an e-mail that says it is correct.Cliff.

I have a Delta one that I lent to Waldo .... old news.
You can flatten the water stone with a bit of carborundum stick they give you.
I only use mine to grind the nail chips out of my mates' chisels (I don't readily lend tools) and it works well for me. I use waterstones for all my serious sharpening on good tools and only grinders etc on damaged or crap tools.- Wood Borer
