Default Makita 3600BR collet spart parts query

    Hi guys,

I've managed to get my hands on a Makita 3600BR router, it's a pretty old one but runs really well. I'm not familiar with the collets on these. It came with a 1/4" collet on it, and when I remove it, it looks very much like a threaded collet cone. I'm used to seeing an ER type collet, where the bit-gripping part sits inside and does not have any thread on it.

I'm chasing after the 1/2" collet now, but I'm unsure whether I need to collet chuck + collet cone or just the collet cone. A number of spare parts sites list the 3601B collet parts in the 3600BR parts list. Anyone have photos of the original 3600BR/3601B collet parts to help me confirm what I am needing?

    Cheers!

Here you go. ½" collet out of my 3600BR. It's one piece.

excellent, much appreciated. i thought i had a 1/4" collet cone, but it looks now like i have a 1/2" collet cone with a sleeve permanently embedded in it. I'm still able to change 1/4" bits though.

No worries. I bought mine new. It came with a ½" collet and the ¼" sleeve you mentioned. The sleeve easily drops into the collet. Maybe your sleeve is frozen into the collet? Perhaps you just need to squirt a bit of RP7 on it then knock it out with a hammer and a piece of mild steel bar?

I'll give that a go. Just to confirm, I'm knocking it out the same direction a router bit would be removed?

How would I clean the lubricant out afterward? I presume highspeed rotations + lubricant on the collet is not a good idea

    I guess. That's what I would do.

Turps, kero, paint thinner. Then let it dry and reinstall in the router.

    Cheers
