Makita 5900BR saw
I have recently acquired an old, abused 5900BR saw with some other equipment; although it looks a wreck with rust, rust and more rust, it runs well! The base plate is very rusty, as are the adjustment levers etc and the cast allow blade guard is corroded and pitted.
Does anyone know if parts can be obtained for these ubiquitous old workhorses and is there is a tool shop in Melbourne who services Makita with reasonable prices and a box of used parts?

Parts are available, although you may not be impressed at the price.
If you're just after a working saw then it won't take many parts to exceed the cost of a fully operational second hand saw.
Another option is to use the web and order from one of the UK online parts places. Most UK and Australian parts are the same (power plugs excepted). The postage is often much less expensive if you don't have a deadline and are prepared to wait a few weeks.

You will find most of the steel parts have just surface rust and can be easily cleaned up.
If there is any broken parts then these can be easily replaced.
Depending on where you are .
