Thread: Makita 60cc Chainsaw - Opinons? Facts?

Yeo its a good saw - I don't have one but have heard many good things about them.

I have the DCS6401 and have been very happy. I did read that aussie timbers could overload the filter so I also bought one of these for it.

No problems to date but it only gets light use.

Great saw. Friend has one and it cuts alongside my 372xpxt. Not quite as fast but we have never had a problem with the 60cc Makita.

i have some more confidence in the saw, but I can't find one to look at! I rang a few places from the Makita website, but they all said they service them, but don't stock them. I even emailed Makita, assuming they would know which store is stocking each saw, but they have told me that the nearest one is in QLD!

I can can get it delivered from an online dealer, but would prefer to deal local, or at least in Perth somewhere......

I have one of its baby brothers the 50cc one. Had it for three years, no problems, good saw. As with all these types of tools just do regular maintenance eg keep air filter clean. It works well it gets dirty.

got its big brother the 7901, runs great and cuts very well, pulls 30 non skip chain in hardwood no problem. even free handed a few slabs with it

I don't know anything about the Makita's but depending on how much you want to cut it may be cheaper to just buy either a used brand name saw or even a cheapo ebay chinese unit. I originally had a cheapo chinese one, which lasted about 5-6 years and eventually the pull mechanism gave up the ghost, so I bought another which turned out it was a P.O.S. so returned it and got my money back, bought another cheapo chinese brand 75CC for the same bucks (about $140 delivered I think) and it is still going strong. I do also have a husqvarna 372XPG which is slightly smaller (72CC) but is much more powerfull and screams like a banshee when cutting, use that one for slabbing. Got a very low hour one by importing it from Canada when the Aussie dollar was much better. So at the end of the day you may end up getting a reasonable one for much less that the $900 that is in your budget. Gumtree has at times got quite a lot of used chainsaws for sale, I only look at Husqvarnas or Stihl purely because I have both of those dealers near me should I need parts, but as I said a cheapo ebay model may be also suit your purpose as they are certainly cheap enough to take a chance.
