Makita BDF452 or BHP452
Hi, looking at getting a new drill.... looking at the Makita BDF452 or BHP452
BDF452SHE-18V LXT Mobile Driver Drill= best brice $289 (stratco)
BHP452SHE-18V LXT Mobile Hammer Drill= best price $339 (Miter 10)
really undecided about the two, accentually they are the same drill, look and feel the same in the hand. Not sure if I really need the hammer drill as it would only be for light work like picture hooks every once and a while... the only reason it is in the mix is because it’s not that much more that the drill/driver.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
<o></o>
My other concern is the reported wobbly chuck... not sure if it’s me or not but once I read one review of the reported wobble in the chuck... all the Makita’s over looked at have a slight wobble. I can’t quite work out if it’s the outer plastic that’s off or if it’s the actual middle chuck bit (hope that makes since) Has anyone else noticed this... is it a known issue ? All the tool shops I have spoken to about the chuck blow tell me that they have had no returns of wobbly chucks...<o></o>

any advice will be great. !!!

Impact Drills
Hi all
I have a BHP441 makita which has three speed and hammer. I only ever use two speeds, the high one and the low one. I have used the hammer on a slab of concrete to put a 9m x6m garage on and it worked quite well. I believe if you used the hammer all the time you would shorten the life of your drill. It has 14.4 volt 3A batteries x 2. The two fully charged batteries will give a full days work attaching colourbond onto metal battens which is quite good.
If you use the 1.5 A batteries you are not lugging around the extra weight all day. There is quite a difference in the weight with the two types of batteries and is definately worth bearing in mind but you would need to charge them up throughout the day.
I have had my drill 12 months now and it is a faultless performer, and has the new style of quick release chuck, what a beauty. It has more than enough power (torque) for most jobs. This is big step up from the older style Makita battery drills but is quite a bit heavier to wield.
Regards Mike

It's the plastic outer. Not the jaws.
I have the hammer drill one. It works very well and I am VERY happy with it.
Does what they say and a bit more. Battery life is ok. Posted a few times adding information to other threads about it so a search should show it.
I've had mine for over a year now. No issues and a really good product for a decent price.

Wobbly Chuck on new BHP452
Hi everyone,
I just purchased a new Makita BHP452 cordess drill and the chuck has a slight wobble. Looking a little closer it appears that the shaft coming directly off the drill spins straight, and it is simply the chuck that wobbles. I was told a drill with no load on it will have a slight wobble but I'm wondering if the wobble continues under a load, even if it is just the chuck and not the shaft coming off the drill, could this eventually have a damaging effect on the rest of the tool over time?
I've read posts where people have returned their makita for a new one only to have the same wobbly chuck. Is this common for new makita drills, or should i bring this drill back to the store and hope for better luck on the replacement?

Are you SURE it's not the outer?
If you have a bit in it and the bit has a fair bit of run out then return it.
That's the only way to check.
