Makita Belt Sander 9924DB .. 100mm belt?
Hi, I just bought a Makita Belt Sander 9924DB and on Makita's website it says "Can use 76mm and 100x610mm belts depending on the application" [my italics]. The booklet that comes with the sander says it only uses 75mm belts, however, the plate that the belt slides over is wide enough to take a 100mm belt, but the rollers that drive the belt are only 75mm odd wide. Does anyone know what the go is? This is my first belt sander and it's well balanced and has plenty of grunt... however, care must be taken or it will drag you across the workshop gotta love these Makitas!

The problem with the 75mm belts is that the graphite pad is exposed and can mark your work.
I use the 100mm belts all the time.Jim Carroll

Yep. True.
The wider belt allows you to "drift" over your sanding areas.
Most of my sanding is on wooden boats.
I love the Makita and the 100mm belt.

the reason makita made the machine to take 75 and 100mm belts was to combat sales and to have one machine that would take 2 size belts, some other brands only have in their ranges either a 75 or 100 mm wide machines and to buy a dedicated 100mm wide machine you would pay a lot more.
