Makita GA5030R case temperature
Hello, I have got a new Makita GA5030R 125 mm angle grinder. I took a long piece of 18 mm DIN rail and I cut it into 3 pieces, using a steel cutting disc (125mm). After this operation, the gearbox case of the grinder was about 50 degrees Celsius. The motor case (the place were I hold the grinder by hand) was about 30 degrees Celsius while the temperature of the ambient was about 26 C.
Is the gear box case temperature normal ?

Yes that would be normal. Abrasive cutting represents a high load so the motor and gearbox will get warm. When I use my 125mm grinders for extended power carving I tend to wear leather gloves to get around this problem.

A new unit might also have some extra friction in the gearbox until everything wears in so that'd warm it up more as well.

Makita 9911 - question about temperature
Hello, I recently bought a Makita 9911 belt sander. I used the machine with the original P80 75x457 mm belt, and after a few minutes of sanding a piece of wood about 50 cm long, the temperature on the marked zones (in the attached image) was about 40-45 degrees C at a ambient temperature of about 28 degrees C. I did not made any pressure on the machine while working.
Am I doing something wrong or this is normal for this kind of sander ?

Yes, push down on the front and rear handles of the machine, make the sander work hard(you can hear this) that’s why it has two handles to push down on. When the belt gets blunt (run your hand across it when the machine is off) You can feel it isnt sharp, change the belt. Machines and tools are meant to get hot, they are working for you.
