    Arrow Makita Lithium Ion Batteries

    Hi there,

I am looking at purchasing a few Makita cordless tools. BGA452 Angle Grinder, BSS611 Circular Saw, BJR182 Reciprocating Saw.
All these tools take the Makita Lithium Ion BL1830 3.0ah battery. I also have a few BL 1815 1.5ah batteries which I noticed don't fit onto these tools because there is a small square piece of plastic stopping the battery from fitting.
    Does anyone know why?
Is it a good idea just to cut the piece of plastic off so the battery fits?
If anyone has got info for me please reply. any help would be much appreciated.

Saw on another forum thread where a poster just cut the offending plastic off and it was all sweet. YMMV, if not confident don't do it.

i cut the plastic off yesterday on an old drill and driver and everything works perfectly.

the only reason i can think of, for makita doing this is...... "revenue raising".

    old model verses new models.
why make them compatible when you can make the customer buy everything new!

a sharp chisel and a mallet soon dislodged the offensive piece of plastic.
    bloody cheeky manufacturers!

dont be shy, get the chisel out and crack it off, trust me, you wont be disappointed.

btw, you should also be aware, that i modified mine so i could use an old drill and driver with the new 1.5 ah batteries.
the circular saw, recipro and grinder chew up the power, so there is no real advantage in using a 1.5 ah battery with these particular power hungry tools that you have mentioned.

    regards, justin.

All Makita tools that have a high power consumption have this 'pip', as a 1.5ah battery will drain very quickly when used with these tools.

It's also a fantastic way to get people to buy more batteries!

    Just cut the pip off.
