Makita LS 1214
I am looking at getting this saw - do I need to replace the blade that is supplied with a better quality? if so what do you suggest (use will be picture framing, box making etc) plus general work.
thanks

The saw is supplied with a 12" 70 tooth TCT blade I believe. I don't think you'll get anything finer for an SCMS. On the other hand, if it has a combination blade.... you certainly could. That's a great saw!

I have a 12" mak SCMS
The blade it comes with is good to use, no worries there. Like all blades, check it for warpage.
I'll just add, a 10" or smaller might be better for picture framing, and making accurate miters. Ive heard the 10" and smaller does a better job of the finer work than the the big 12", and from my experience with my 12", and using smaller 10" and under I'd have to agree.

I have the smaller makita and have 3 diffrent blades a 80 tooth aluminium cutting blade a 80 tooth TCT and a 40 tooth rip blade , with the ease of blade change and after paying for a great saw don't skimp on one blade to do it all get a couple and use the saw to its full potential

Hi Ron,
I have had a Mak LS1214 for over a year now and it is faaantastic.
I cut a lot of frames and have done boxes and trays using the bevel, in everything from Radiata and red Gum to Blackwood and Ebony. The standard 60 tooth 305mm blade works very well for picture frames of just about any dimension you are game to but through. The mitres are as close to perfect as you can get. I have tried an Irwin 100 tooth thin kerf and wasn't happy with the resultant mitres, they seemed bowed in the middle. I also tried a Dewalt 80 tooth thin Kerf and didn't like that either. I've now got a Mak Blue 60 tooth blade which I haven't tried yet. But I agree, get more than one blade to get max. flexibility. The LS1214 is one red hot mamma.
Regards,
Rob
