Makita SP6000 track rubber lip - can I totally trim it off?
Hey all!
I recently purchased a Makita SP6000 with a pair of tracks.
It's no news that when cutting a piece out of the panel with the SP6000 you have to place the track a bit beyond to compensate the material lost by the blade cut. The problem is that I don't feel too much secure to use the small rubber lip that surpass the track as reference. I'd like to know if there would have any bad side effect if I trim it completely (flush) to the edge of the aluminum.
Thanks!

The strip is designed to be wider than needed and the first cut will trim it off to the actual saw kerf so it is an accurate reference point
It also serves to assist blade tearout
Another option is to do your measurement calculations referenced from the other side of the track

The rubber lip is designed to be user replaceable when it wears, so if you do decide to do away with it, no need to trim. It should come off fairly cleanly.
Personally i wouldn't take it off, as Beardy points out, your first cut should cut it inline and give you a perfect guideline. Over time this will change, but as said you can replace it and start over.
