Default Makita tools price differences 389 to 650 for same tool.

I was after a DA3011F, its an angle drill.
Looks like an angle grinder with a chuck on it.

I did a few looks around the web and most seemed to be $595.
But a local tool shop had them for $389.
    Hey that's a great price.
I thought I'd ring BGS for a price as well, they needed to check as they don't stock it.
    $650 was their price.

Now I know I could have taken the local tool shop price and got it 10% less than that at the BGS.
But to my way of thinking its We'll rip you off unless you can catch us out.
So I got it local tool shop.
I'll buy from the person that gives me a price, not the one who we'll beat it.....
I do the same with new car dealers. I'd rather deal with the one that gives me a price than the one that says we'll beat any price you get elsewhere.

I was under the impression that the BGS policy on the "we beat it by 10%" only applies to items they stock?

But I admire your thinking anyway.

    Edit:

    Yes, only stocked items

Just goes to show that shopping around can save you money.

The BGS price is 70% more than a tool shop price.

    Ah well.

I rang a local tool shop and was quoted $398 tax included for both the key and keyless chuck versions. I'll be getting one in a few weeks and guess where I am going to buy it from.

The key one is usually 5 bucks cheaper.
the keyed one also has a smaller thickness so you can get into smaller places.

this is where I got mone

    The keyed one is 385.

They will ship but I think I got the last 3011 *still one on display) but I know they have 3 x 3010 (keyed one)

While I might be wrong, there may not be a strong demand for this item hence why the big price differences. BGS would be bringing in one on special order compared with Audel, a specialty tool shop, part of a national buying group which may order 100+ at a time and get a better price, or have a smaller margin for bigger turn over.
If it was me I would have bought the cordless version http://audel.com.au/makita-bda351z-a...18v-skin-only/ . I already have the battery and charger and would save about $100.

Audel's is good. Bought my first and only hammer drill, a Hitachi, from them back in 1980(?). Good price if I recall correctly.
