Hi Les
I bought the Carba-tec FM300 DC recently as well. I had attempted to use the Delta thicknesser with a (supposedly!) 2 hp Shopvac. What a joke! Shaving and dust everywhere. The FM300 (also 2 hp) vacuumed away every speck of dust while the Delta was working. At the moment I just have it connected via a 4m x 4" hose (it is going to be sited at this distance). Next step will be to connect it to my tablesaw (a second 1 1/2m hose). I have thoughts here of something similar to a downdraft table (via the central plate). Any suggestions?
Regards
Derek

I have a Carbatec CT-340 and the manual that came with it has a title of Geetech and Chiu Ting Machinery Co. Ltd.
How does that compare with the other brands?

Gentlemen
There is confusion here. I think you will find that GMC, Carbatec, Hare & Forbes, Ryobi and Timbecon all make a thicknesser that is fundamentally the same. However, at least, Carbatec, Ryobi and Timbecon make another similar size machine that is more sophisticated, but at first glance looks similar to the cheapies.
For example Ryobi make the AP13 and the AP1300 (which may only be available in the US) and Timbecon produce the MB-1931 and the more expensive CT-330. The upmarket machines may too be clones, but not clones of their cheaper bertheren. I am reasonably certain that Carbatec do this too, but have mislaid ther catalogue.
Derek's Delta may share similar components to the up market machines, but here I am guessing

Incidentally, I have the Timbecon cheapie thicknesser. I have been disappointed in that it doesn't take much to trip the thermal overload, but I do think there is a fault with it and it may not be representative of this type of machine. I still use it but have to limit my useage carefully.
It was $399 when I bought mine. Now they sell the same for $299 and the GMC is $199. Go with the cheapest particularly if it has a 2 year guarantee!

Derek,
I have 2 Y-connections on the FM300. The reason is that I have the Jointer, Tablesaw and 15" Thicknesser permanently connected and each connection has a blast gate. When I use other equipment in the garage that is on wheels (bandsaw, spindle sander) I move it into place and divert the jointer hose. The suction is fantastic. Will post a piccy tomorrow.
Regards

Ryobi AP13 in OZ, AP1300 in U.S.
I am sure many realize that the Ryobi AP13 sold in Australia is NOT the same as the AP1300 sold in the U.S.
So the US magazine review is moot.
Many probably know of this review of the Ryobi AP13
