    Default Metabo drill stuck in hammer mode

    I have a Metabo corded electric drill purchased new about 15 to 20 years ago. Many years ago it got stuck in "Hammer" mode and I took it in for repair. I recall that the technician told me at the time that it was a fairly simple fix.
    It is now stuck in "hammer" mode again. I can turn the selector knob, but it does not solve the problem.
    I have removed the nose casing to expose the gears, but having seen no obvious problem, reassembled it without removing any gears. It runs ok, but still stuck in "hammer".
    I am now located some distance from a service centre, and looking to fix this myself. I dont need the hammer facility, so any fix that deletes that feature would be ok.
    Suggestions will be appreciated.

    Steve Dawkins in Launceston should be able to sort it out for you if anybody can. He's always done a great job with my Festo, Metabo & Bosch tool service & repair. Unless you really want to DIY. Even if you do eventually 'break' it, being 20 years old it doesn't really owe you anything, does it? Rip into it sunshine!
