    Default MJ2325 or TSC-10B

    Hi Folks,

Just trying to decide on which TS to think about buying. I was originally going to buy one of those Ryobi ones which seem's that theres not any point to one of those. I have a very tight budget, & getting power onto the shed looks like it's going to cost more than I thought.

Anyways, as I don't really know much I was wondering if anyone owns or can comment on either of these 2 cheap TS's. The MJ2325 & the TSC-10B. The MJ is $250 cheaper & has a solid looking fence, but I think it locks front & back & can't take a Dado set. the TSC I think (but not certain) has that Biesemeyer style fence (which alot of people here seem to favor) & I'm I'm pretty certain it will take a Dado set.

I know it looks like the TSC is better, as I'm sure it is. But just wondering if I really would need to pay more if the MJ is goodenough. & how much use would a Dado set really get ? can't you use a router or do lazy Dado's instead ?

I'm happy to pay more for better things if I will use the features enough to justify it. But as I'm only just starting out from scratch in woodworking & theres alot of cost to start with I can't afford fine wine on less than a beer budget.

Anyways, am just looking to hear what others have to say & their thoughts as you all know a great deal & have alot more experience than I.

    Many thanks
    Cheers

I was toying with the idea of buying one of the $1000 contractor type table saws when I made my purchase about 6 months ago...

I ended up paying the extra for the TSC-10HB and am VERY glad I did. It is much more solid and as you say, has the Beisemeyer clone fence which is great and very accurate and locks down at the front very firmly and is easy to adjust to square it up if needed out of the box. Not to mention the 10HB is a cabinet saw with solid cast iron wings (MJ2325 has less solid wings). The 10HB has a triple belt whereas I am guessing the MJ is single belt by the look of it?

I think its well worth spending the extra as there is quite a large difference in quality between these two models. I am using a Freud stacked dado set on my 10HB and it works great. Much less painful than routing dado's, particularly wider ones.

I think you will find there is a growing number of satisfied 10HB owners in this forum who are also very happy with their purchase.
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

    Thanks for the reply Dean,

I had noticed alot of people seem to be happy with the TSC-10HB but that is a different saw to the one I was thinking of. I'm not sure of what is different between the 10B & the 10HB except that the one I was looking at was on an open stand much the same as the MJ, not a cabinet.
Not certain as I haven't been to a shop & seen the 10B, but I think it doesn't have the solid cast wings like the one you have. Maybe the 10B is a contractors version of the 10HB. I will have to try & have a look at them & ask more questions.

There is $500 odd difference between the 10B & the 10HB which sadly is just getting too far from my reach. I will have to give it some more thought & time to see what path I follow.

    Cheers & Thanks

The contractor saw from Gary Pye Woodturning has full cast iron tables and extensions, and the same rip fence as the TSC-10HB. Very solid. A friend of mine has one and is pretty happy with it. There was a thread on this forum a while ago if you can find it.
    Cheers
