    Default mortice machine

Some months ago I promised (threatened?) to post pictures of my version of converting a 'fixed base' mortice machine to a 'sliding base' machine. As with most versions I've seen, the new set up uses a $75 2-axis vice with 1 stage reversed and the whole contraption fixed to a new base. As shown below, I reversed the mast on my Jet, assembled a new base where the only critical dimension is the height of the top stage, modified the vice and fitted it all together.
It works very well. Accurate double and single mortices are a breeze, Fletty

That's a great modification. Where did you get the vise? I have same machine but different colour

I bought the vice at Gasworld at Penrith for (I think) $75 but I've seen the same one at Total Tools as well. The mod to the vice is very simple and the combination is very easy to use and very accurate, Fletty
