Thread: Mounting Towa Electric planer upside down

Triton had a setup for their work centres that did just that. Maybe you could track one down.

Sorry to rain on your parade - perhaps it will work great for you but......

When I originally bought my Makita 1100B I also bought the upside down mounting accessory - used it a couple of times but was not at all happy with the whole concept.

The bed is far too short, ie the cut adjusting foot at the front needed support as it was too short when using upside down - part solution was to set up a set of roller stands [3] which did help. The width of the deck is also a problem unless you are only doing small stuff. To plane a stud or similar [hardwood] ensure that the stand is well bolted down rather than clamped as the weight of the stud can move clamps.

When finished count your fingers this is the sort of feeling this accessory produced.

Any piece of a good length was easier and gave a better finish when the plane was used the right way up.

That's the way I've used mine for many years - there are limitations obviously but I find it pretty useful given that I don't hane a 'proper' jointer

I have the "manual"but it doesn't say too much about mounting it upside down.

I have a makita of the same style /quality and I was really looking for a use for it hence setting it up as a joiner. I would only be using it for smaller stock .

I heard that the Triton thingo was garbage?

Oh well I might see what I can come up with.

Hi Stungout,
I won a Green Hitachi Electric Planer, about 12in. Long with a 3in. cut.
It is in a bracket made for it, & it is with a Alum. Blade Cover, really useful on the small stuff I do.
Noisy, very good. The reason for the Inches is it came out in the Imperial Days.

I am new to the site ... and the thread. I have googled for a Towa L-120 manual but no luck but found this thread. Is there anyone that may be able to help me with a copy? I noticed a few in the thread mentioned they had one but thread posts were around 6 years ago and details may have changed since then.

I don't know about the ones for a Towa but I have seen several for sale on ebay for Makitas in the last two years or so. You could probably adapt one of those easily.
Here is one for the Makita 1100 complete with guard -Planer Accessories.
Incidentally, I have used my older, longer Makita planer in one of these bench adapter stands with a guard for years without incident. As always with power tools , use them correctly ( guards, push sticks etc ) and you'll be fine.
