Thread: MTD brushcutter petrol mix?

I dont know the model you have but if not sure of the mix go 25/1. If this smokes all the time when running then try a bit less oil next fill.

Seems like one of the relatives wrote it down in a book and seems to be 40:1 or (5L fuel: 125ml oil). How accurate that is is anyones guess.

For anyone reading this please do not take that as gosple and if you damage you mtd brushcutter it's your issue. I take no responsibility or liability.

Personally I don't really care since it's hard to start and various covers have fallen off and it has a crappy head on it so if it dies I'm not too worried. Last thing I want to do is run it too rich and have oil coming out of the exhaust and inhaling it for a hour or two. Done that in the past. I'll take the chance given the conditions.

The American site seems to recommend berween 32 to 40 to 1 mix depending on year. You may download a manual on the second link. These ratios have a lot to do with emissions - I have noticed that some machines operate a bit hotter on such ratios - don't know why -maybe not enough oil in the mix - possibly the makers are trading off the longevity of the machine to satisfy emmissions laws??

Most brush cutters, well those that I have had and killed seem to like 40:1 or 50:1, the current little Ryobi el cheapo thing uses the 50:1 mix.

Thanks everyone. That support site and the chimes of 40:1 or 50:1 give me much more confidence that the 40:1 recommendation a relative passed on was probably right for the unit I have..
