Nail gun
What is the most usefull nail gun to buy. A coil gun or angled framing gun. I would be using it for both framing and decking/cladding.
Thanks.

Coil nailers aren't suited to framing OR cladding but ok on decking.
A T nailer is ok on decking/cladding if you use gal nails.
With either of these you still need a separate framing gun.

I love my Paslode framer.
I personally dont think you should use any gun for decking, but if you insist you can get a non mare tip and deck fast nails.
Throw the compressor away honey and liberate yourself (said in my best effeminate voice)
Gas guns are the future....well until the next thing comes along.

a GMC . . .
Somebody is reviewing the new GMC magnesium nailer on this board today.
Uses a new concept - and uses any nails you want - even loose nails - so presumably can be used for any purpose...
Worth a look... HERE

Nailgun
If you want the ducks guts, buy the MAX HN75 coil framer with the MAX POWERLITE COMPRESSOR.This gun will frame, do decking and fasten cement sheet. It will take nails from 32mm-75mm and weighs only 2.5 Kg.If you spend more dollars and buy the HN120 gun you can fasten timber to concrete and timber to 10mm steel. The whole set-up is pricy but it's such a cool system you'll never look back. For more info go to www.alcav.com.au

get a 75mm coiler for framing and you can use dome head twist shank stainless nails (50-65mm) for decking- perrrrrrfect!!
any popular brands will do

Its funny how it seems that it is only people in NSW that have discovered the gas guns. Using a compessor is like going back to drills pre cordless days? They were good because you could (and still can) use different attachments and I can see this is good in the shed but on site, up a ladder? no thanks.

Well, there are a couple of downsides to Paslodes:
1. They're expensive (although not if you factor in the cost of the compressor and hose)
2. Rechargeable batteries - not a big deal in and of itself but they don't last forever and they always go flat when you're up that ladder
3. Consumables cost a bit more - 'cause of gas cylinder
The other thing about an air nail gun is you can lower it down to your buddy by the hose
But having used nothing but air guns for the last few months at home, I miss my BIL's Paslode framer and finish nailer.
Regarding coil nailers, you can certainly nail up cladding with them. I have on semi-permanent loan a Duo Fast. I've used it to nail up fibro sheet, nail down chipboard flooring and Merbau decking to steel and to nail bracing units to wall frames. But it's useless for framing and only nails flat heads, so no good for finish work.
I've got 3 guns (the framer, finish nailer and the Duo Fast) and a stapler and I reckon you need 'em all...

I have seen the gas nailers used over here quite a bit and to me I still prefer the compressor run guns. You never have to worry about gas cylinders or the such and a compressor with a long hose usually suffices. I know the hose can be a bit of prick sometimes but at least you you should always have air. I am certain I have also seen a gun run off batteries before looked pretty big but effective. I can't for the life of me remember what brand it was or whether it was a nailer or omething else. I have used a few different types but the Paslode rates right up there I also like the Bostitch nailer. From what I know they are both pretty expensive but do a great job.
