Default Nail guns & Cordless drivers. New to the site.

Hello to all, new to the forum so apologies for anything that may be out of place? Took on a part-time job about 8 years ago which has become an obsession. Basically, it's paling fences but I also do stairs, decks, pergola's & small house extensions. The problem is I spend all I make on tools, luckily my other job pays the domestic bills. I have a couple of questions to add to my introduction if anyone can help? I have an Hitachi framer and an Airco coiler, I picked up a S/H coiler the other day made by DAW TOOLS CN65. I thought it was a good idea to pick up a second coil gun when I'm fencing as my Airco has let me down once or twice so it was back to the hammer & nails (very time-consuming). I did a google search on the DAW coil gun, but no info. Does anyone know the origins of these, or are they just a limited run in out of China? Secondly, my trusty Makita 18V cordless drill is starting to not hold its charge very well (Ni cad batteries). I was just going to put up with it until it completely fell of the perch, but noticed that Just Tools in Sth Melbourne have Panasonic 14.4V lithium-Ion Driver Drill & Impact Driver combo for a tad under $700, & a bonus battery (3 batteries). Both these tools separately retail for that price alone at other retailers! So was after anyones thoughts on the qaulity /longevity of the Panasonic range? I did own a Panasonic drill driver back in the 80's (7.2V), but it lost its ability to hold a charge pretty quickly. Any feedback on my queries would be greatly appreciated. I have visited this site many times over the years when looking for feedback on certain tools, but thought I'd better register. Thanks.

I love my Panasonic drills. Being a sparky, I need something with grunt at times and something that is well balanced and not too big as I do not have large hands. I have the 15.6V NiMH version and the batteries lasted 3 1/2 years before they started to not hold their charge. That drill has done a lot of work including my home renovations and I was so impressed that I bought another one 5 months ago from a Trade Tools Direct sale where I got one with 3 batteries for $380.00.
We purchased the 14.4V versions that you are asking about at work about 4 months ago and everyone is happy with their performance so far. They are a bit lighter than the model I have, but have plenty of power and the batteries last quite a long time too. Panasonic seem to be a sparky thing as my builder mates all seem to go for the Makita's.
Just remember, batteries are only as good as you look after them.

As far as cordless drills go, you can't go past the Panasonic drills. I've got Makita drill, drivers, etc in 18v though next time I'm looking @ buying a cordless drill I'll be going with the Panasonic or Milwaukee. As far as the coil nailer goes, can't say I've seen or heard of it. Depending how much work you plan on doing with it (more so, how much $ it will make for you) as to how much you want to spend on a new coil nailer but I do have a saying.... 'poor man pays twice'

The Panasonic combos are panasonics flagship for volume onto the market place & are limited editions thats why the value looks so great.

There is about to be released a new combo with 3.3ah batteries in the next couple of weeks. Its capacity is truly amazing, there was an independant test done & the panasonic 3ah version screwed 479 screws the 3.3ah version screwed 600+ The makita 18v lithium impact driver screwed 439 screws

I have two Panosonic drill drivers and one driver. Love them - light well balanced and plenty of grunt. The last drill and driver were bought as a combo and replaced a makita combo. Great batteries.

Donīt have a Panasonic. Would love one!!

Tests in the USA- canīt find the reference -showed Hitachi to be the top cordless. Perhaps they will be leapfrogged by the new Panasonics.

    Soloist,

If you still love your Mak and it's only the batteries then check this web site. You can also get NiMh if your Mak charger can handle them.

No affiliation...etc....have used them ...prices are reasonable.

Thanks for all the responses. Will most likely go the Panasonic with the lithium Ion batteries. As for the DAW coil nailer, still have no idea what its origin is but it was a cheap second hand unit that I only use as a back up gun to my Airco, and hasn't let me down yet. So I'll just let its origin remain a mystery? Thanks again.
