Nailing Hardiflex ceilings
Hello All
I have approx 38 sq mt of patio ceiling to fix and am looking for advice on the suitability of using a coil nailer to fix 4.5mm Hardiflex to soft pine battens. Local hardware says its not on, but man, you haven't seen me hammer upside down, thats not on either...
I can't see why a coil nailer can't handle the job, whats the thoughts on this?Nili Illegittimi Carborundum

Nailing ceilings.
Once you get the hang of useing the hammer back hand,do not choke it,you will have the job done in no time at all. You will also have a new skill for life.

Thanks Rowley
I knew someone would say something similar
At least I learnt as a boy not to choke hammers, my mates dad was a chippy and had passed that on to his son at an early age
Cheers

It's very easy to drive the nails too deep into the hardiflex, which means the board gets compressed and will break away around the head.
As long as you have a good gun that can reliably sit the nails ever so slightly proud of the surface, you can do it.
Use the same specification nails as for hand nailing.

Thanks MS
That is a little of the problem, ID ing the nail by the tech blurb, I guess a little longer wouldn't hurt?Nili Illegittimi Carborundum

Longer is fine. Its the head/shank diameter that is most important. One of the JH brochures had a list of suitable nail guns and nails, but I can't remember which one it is!

Thanks again MS
I'll have another look at the JH site, don't recollect seeing nail guns mentioned though

Hand nailing will be well worth the effort to end up with a better job. . . But if your going for a coil nailer then also consider the Makita #AN61. Ive punished mine for years and it hasnt missed a beat

Thanks Thumpa
Already ordered the Hitachi, I guess if it doesn't perform I'll have to swing a hammer. As mentioned it would be a skill learned for life tho one I probably won't need again. I'm sure the Makita is a good tool, I have a few bits of their gear. And Hitachi too. Some of the pluses of the H was it uses a vast array of nail types & manufacture and the low weight. Unfortunately out here there was none too see, only model stocked was a Rockworth, no nails in stock and they couldn't tell me what it would take
So much for buying locally.
Cheers
