I can only confirm Derek’s views on the Mark 2 Veritas sharpening guide.
It does all that you would want and does it competently and easily.

I found that I was enjoying working with hand tools, but the frustration of trying to get tools as sharp as required was giving me serious grief, more time sharpening and getting poor results than working with the tools.

The Mark 2 arrived on Wednesday in good condition. On unpacking the instructions were straight forward and easy to follow.

Within a short period of time I was able to get the edge on my plane blades: dry shaved the hair of my arm without effort.

What was more important is that this result was consistently reproducible. Every blade came off with the edge that I wanted. Now I felt comfortable enough to try for those results that I had only read about: microbevels, back bevels and different pitches. And the Mark 2 delivered, first time and every time.

I had a small table top of laminated Silky Oak, full of figure, rays and flecks. I could not believe the results that my newly sharpened blades delivered, fabulous surface within minutes with no further finished required, any sanding would have diminished the surface.

As I understand it Roy Green from Get Woodworking in Williamstown is getting a shipment of the Mark 2s, and I would strongly back up Derek Cohen’s reviews on this sharpening system.
